How Committed Are You To Yourself?
5 Ways to Increase Personal Commitment in Life
Written by: Lisa Concepcion
How committed are you to yourself? It’s a question I have asked myself a lot over the past year. Last week the question was prompted by yet another abnormal pap telling me I have cervical dysplasia, again. I, like 80% of the population was diagnosed with HPV,human papillomavirus. It’s been nothing but a cycle to nowhere for over a decade. Finally I reached a breaking point and an opportunity to commit fully to myself and my health. I am restoring my female reproductive system to what it was when I was 15 years old. This got me thinking about personal commitment.
In my business as a Love Strategist, I constantly hear people complain about how no one is interested in commitment anymore. I agree! Commitment has gotten a bad rap and most people ditch responsibility to self and others. It’s easier to say you’re happy than to believe you are happy. In other words it’s easier to BS yourself. Most people don’t want to commit to working on themselves yet wonder why they don’t attract anyone willing to commit to them. If you want better YOU must do better. If I want to heal myself and achieve optimal health, I HAVE TO COMMIT! So to help myself and others, I offer these 5 ways to increase personal commitment in life.
- Get Honest With Yourself
Here’s a fact, no change will be made until you admit a change MUST be made. Get honest. If you know you want to lose weight, be more fit, be less hurt by the things people say or that you want to attract love in your life; you need to get honest with the degree of change you want to see. Don’t think about whether or not you can do it. Just get honest and say I must commit to doing x, y. z right NOW not when my kids are back in school, not when I get a raise, not when this or that happens… DO IT NOW. Acknowledge exactly where your life is NOT working and then commit to making it work Go all in with yourself. You WILL NOT attract someone to commit fully to you if you cannot commit fully to yourself.
- Write Down Your Pledge
Get a notebook and write down exactly what you want to commit to. At the top of the page write “In the next 2 weeks I will commit to…” then write down your list. I committed 3 weeks to doing a health protocol that my personal natural healer and Body Talk specialist Judith Rybiki. I told her I am 100% all in full on committed to healing my cervix, removing all disease and restoring my organs to what I was at age 15. She sent me list of things I must do each day for the next 3 weeks. This includes taking vitamins, drinking a juice of spinach, celery, carrots and lemon, two table spoons of liquid vitamin d and douching with wheatgrass. I took my journal and started to write out that I love myself and my body and I am fully committed to healing myself and ridding myself of this HPV BS once and for all. I researched. Plenty of people cured themselves of HPV naturally. So I will too. Our bodies are designed to heal itself. That includes healing our minds of mental bruises. Commit and get better.
- Find Support and Resources
When you commit to yourself you need to surround yourself with other people who are committed to themselves too. You can’t commit to losing 50 pounds then surround yourself with friends and family who are insisting you drink another glass of wine with them or share the dessert. You can’t commit to attracting great love if you are hanging around negative people miserable and complaining about their own dysfunctional relationships. In my case, I enlisted Dr. Judith as my healer. I have my friend Ali who I go power walking with. We talk during our walks and it’s like therapy for both of us. We come away with good exercise, sweaty bodies and forward thinking inspired minds after 90 minutes of walking. I enlisted the trainers at Equinox, the gym I committed to by joining earlier this month. How committed are you to yourself? The answer is evident in the company you keep.
- Commit to Kindness
You can’t beat yourself up. You MUST monitor your inner dialogue. Do NOT call yourself anything negative. DO NOT speak unkindly of yourself to yourself. Again, if you’re calling yourself an idiot or lazy, or dumb or fat, or any other name then how can you expect to follow through on your commitments to yourself? How can you attract someone to commit to you? Be kind to yourself. Don’t coddle yourself just kick your own ass and follow through.
- Do Something Even If It Is Small
You want to lose weight? Start off by walking around the block, park your car far and walk. Pay attention to what you are eating and drinking. Don’t say you want to lose 50 pounds and then the next day join Crossfit. You’ll see the other people and will only feel awful. You have to build up to the next level not only physically but mentally. For the next 3 weeks I have my health regimen of juices, vitamins and wheatgrass douche. Sticking to it is a huge accomplishment but I don’t have a choice. I’m committed to these steps. You don’t see me becoming a vegetarian cutting out carbs and all the foods I love. What I’ll do is eat what I love just less of it and will substitute better options. I won’t drink soda or caffeinated juices. I’ll drink my “Healing Juice” and water with lemon. Little things!
Just know that the more we do to better ourselves the more loving we become to ourselves and that’s were self-commitment grows from. We start to raise our standards for how we treat ourselves. That is when we start to attract better people and opportunities. You deserve it but know that if you can’t commit to yourself you won’t ever attract commitment from someone else. Commit to yourself first.
